Every organization has a story. Nyana Impact Initiative was born from a deeply personal story of love, loss, hope, and a commitment to serve others.

Nyana was established on 31st January 2026 by Mbabazi Viola, the Founder and Executive Director, following the passing of her beloved father, Sabarera, from Ntungamo District.

For Viola, starting Nyana was more than establishing an organization. It was a way of continuing her father’s legacy of compassion and service to communities.

A Father Who Lived to Give Hope

Growing up, Viola watched her father dedicate his time, resources, and heart to helping people around him.

His commitment to community service had been inspired by his own father, Nzabarera, who supported children from vulnerable families by providing school necessities and paying school fees for orphans. He also responded to community needs, including supporting the development of churches, mosques, and other community initiatives whenever people reached out for help.

Sabarera carried this spirit of generosity throughout his own life.

His passion for helping others was also deeply connected to his own birth story. According to the family story, his mother experienced a long period without conceiving and later went through several miscarriages before finally giving birth to him. His birth therefore became a powerful symbol of hope, faith, and perseverance for the family.

That experience shaped the man he became. Sabarera used his personal resources to support and uplift communities around him.

Turning Loss into a Legacy

After losing her father, Viola made a personal commitment: his story of giving should not end with him.

She founded Nyana Impact Initiative to extend that legacy to more vulnerable communities and families.

Nyana focuses on creating opportunities, restoring dignity, and strengthening vulnerable communities through girl-child education, women empowerment initiatives, livelihood enhancement, and community outreach programmes. The initiative also supports vulnerable children by facilitating referrals for children with severe disabilities to specialised hospitals and appropriate services, helping families access the specialised care and support they need.

Through community outreaches, Nyana identifies vulnerable individuals and families, listens to their needs, mobilises support, and connects them to opportunities and services that can improve their lives.

The journey began with Viola mobilising friends who shared her passion for helping others. Together, they started conducting community outreaches, identifying families in need, mobilising support, and responding to challenges affecting vulnerable people.

What started as one daughter’s desire to honour her father is growing into a wider commitment to restore hope, strengthen livelihoods, empower women and girls, and create lasting opportunities for vulnerable communities.

The Meaning Behind the Name “Nyana”

The name Nyana carries its own special family story.

Viola was born around the same time her father’s beloved cow, Koozi, gave birth to a female calf. Sabarera had a particular love for cows, especially calves. Because Viola was born at the same time as the calf and shared similarities with it, her father affectionately named her Nyana, after the calf.

For him, the name represented love and affection.

Years later, that same name became the identity of an initiative founded in his memory—a name that now carries a much bigger purpose.

From One Father’s Legacy to Many Lives

Nyana’s story began with one family, but its vision is much bigger.

It is about taking the values Sabarera lived by—compassion, generosity, hope, and service—and extending them to communities beyond his own.

For Nyana, every act of support has the potential to change a life. A girl supported to remain in school, a woman given an opportunity to strengthen her livelihood, a family connected to essential services, or a child with a severe disability referred for specialised care can be the beginning of a different future.
